Sudarshan Roy Choudhary Minister for Higher Education, West Bengal and
Mr Srinivas Rao, CPI(M) Central Secretariat Member at the CPI(M) Office
at A K Gopalan Bhawan, New Delhi. The meeting was organized to review
the present situation in Australia and to investigate the steps that
could be taken to by various State Governments to improve the quality of
life of Indians there.

FISA has championed the cause of welfare of all Indians in Australia.
They have highlighted the plight of students in Australia that are
affected by violence and fraud. Everyone present was deeply concerned at
the deteriorating situation in Australia and invited FISA to start a
dialogue to see how the interests of students belonging to respective
States can be better served. While commenting on it, Mr Gupta said,"
FISA remains open and committed to work with everyone to bring about
positive change. We want to ensure that every student coming to
Australia has all the information and expertise to be successful in
Australia."

Mr Baby and Mr Choudhary, reaffirmed their Government's desire to see an
improvement in situation in Australia. Mr Baby assured Mr Gautam to
extend all the support of his Government necessary. He acknowledged the
role played by FISA and invited FISA to continue to suggest projects and
programs that could be adopted. The sentiment's were echoed by Mr
Choudhary who also invited detailed proposals.

The Ministers were however concerned that the proposal to open Education
service provision in India may be too premature. The recent college
collapses in Australia has again raised doubts on the integrity of
foreign service providers and the difficulties in regulating and
ensuring a fair outcome. Mr Baby said," we will need to look closely at
the bill and investigate the possibility of proposing an Ordinance in
this matter."

Mr Sitaram Yechury, while commenting on Mr Gupta's visit said,
that,"This is a good start. We need more fearless champions who will
stand with their fellow human beings in their time of need."

Mr Gupta thanked the team for their hospitality and vision for the
welfare of people they represent.
